I prefer to go from water propagation to Lava Love
however transition from soil is able to be done
for transition use ccs initially then switch to Foliage Focus and RootZone once plant is settled. Usually a few weeks. Also give new plants time to acclimatise before transitioning.
Transitioning your plants from soil to rocks can be a great way to create a low-maintenance and visually appealing garden. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Materials Needed:
- Sterilized scissors
- Container for soaking roots
- Rocks (e.g., river rocks, lava rocks, or pebbles)
- Semi-hydroponic pot or container with drainage holes
- Water
Steps:
- Preparation:Select the Right Plants:Â Hardy plants like succulents, cacti, and some houseplants (e.g., pothos, Monstera, philodendrons) are ideal for rock-based setu
- Clean the Rocks:Â Rinse the rocks thoroughly to remove any dust or debris2.
- Removing the Plant from Soil:Gently remove the plant from its current pot.
- Carefully clean the roots to remove as much soil as possible. You can rinse the roots in water to help with this3.
- Trim any damaged or dead roots with sterilized scissors1.
- Planting in Rocks:Place a layer of rocks in the bottom of the new pot to ensure good drainage2.
- Position the plant in the pot and fill around the roots with rocks, ensuring even coverage1.
- Lightly press the rocks around the roots to secure the plant3.
- Initial Watering:Water the plant thoroughly to help settle the rocks around the roots1.
- For the first two weeks, water the plant as you would with soil, ensuring the rocks remain moist but not waterlogged2.
- Aftercare and Maintenance:Monitor the moisture level and adjust your watering schedule as needed. Rocks retain less moisture than soil, so you may need to water more frequently3.
- Initially, no additional fertilization is needed. After a few months, you can use a diluted liquid fertilizer1.
- Observe your plant’s health and troubleshoot any issues that arise1.
Tips:
- Self-Watering Pots:Â If using self-watering pots, avoid filling the reservoir for the first couple of weeks to allow the roots to grow into it2.
- Dry Phase:Â Allow a dry phase between waterings to prevent overwatering2.
Transitioning to rocks can give your indoor plants a fresh, modern look while making care easier. Enjoy your new rock garden! 🌿
